I wish to take this opportunity to update the House on a matter of considerable importance to many of our citizens and indeed the financial system in the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union. The matter to which I refer is the status of British American Insurance Company (BAICO).

ISSUANCE OF PROPERTY TAX DEMAND NOTICES

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, March 10, 2010: The public is hereby advised that the issuance of demand notices for property tax has been delayed due to administrative reasons.

DEADLINE FOR FILING ANNUAL STAMP TAX & INCOME TAX RETURN

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, March 10, 2010: The Ministry of Finance advises the general public that, in accordance with section 65 of the Income Tax Act 36 of 1994, the deadline for the filing of Annual Income Tax Returns for businesses whose fiscal year ended 31st December 2009) is 31st March 2010.  Additionally, in accordance to Section 6, of the Annual Stamp Tax Act 36 of 1992, the filing date for Annual Stamp Tax Return for 2010 is also 31st March 2010.  Every person who operates a business, trade or profession is reminded of their obligations under the Acts.

DRUG CONTROL OFFICERS CONCERNED BY ALCOHOL RELATED HOSPITAL ADMISSIONS

St. George’s Grenada, March 10th 2010 – Concerns about the number of patients being admitted to the General Hospital for medical problems associated with the consumption of alcohol is prompting the Drug Control Secretariat to conduct research to determine whether the recent increase in prices of alcoholic beverages, due to the imposition of the VAT and the Excise Tax, will reduce consumption of alcohol and the negative consequences associated with such consumption.
