Hillsborough, January 29th, 2010-
One of Carriacou’s secondary schools plans to introduce an inter-house competition this academic year to aid in improving students’ performance in Mathematics.

The proposed Mathematics’ competition at Bishop’s College comes against the background of concerns expressed by the Ministry of Education at the below-average performance in math by the nation’s students. Bishop’s College Principal, Rholda Quamina, has announced that the school is taking the lead to arrest the math problem.

She made the disclosure at the College’s annual Speech Day and Award Ceremony on Thursday, January 28.  In her principal’s report, Ms. Quamina said the 2008-2009 school year was challenging, but successful for Bishop’s College.  Its successes included a 100 percent pass rate in seven CXC subjects, she said.
