St. George’s, Grenada, Monday, December 15, 2009: Minister for Works, Hon. Joseph Gilbert, has described the reopening of the Brizan-Perseverance Road as a “landmark achievement.’’

A major rock-fall, during work to widen the road to make it safer for pedestrian and vehicular traffic, forced its closure for three weeks. The incident also disrupted water supply in the area. The road has reopened and the flow of water has been restored.

Hon. Gilbert praised the role of Grenadians involved in the project, including the road contractors and the employees of the National Water and Sewage Authority (NAWASA).

“The reopening of this section of the Brizan-Perseverance Main Road,’’ the Minister said, “represents a landmark achievement in the history of road construction in Grenada. This has been no easy feat, bearing in mind the nature and scale of the problems faced at that site. Until now, no government has had the courage to undertake any major work on these dangerously overhanging rocks, which constantly threatened the safety of motorists and pedestrians alike.’’
