Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas has signaled the government’s intention to “rebalance” the society without “any victimisation.” Speaking at a recent sitting of Parliament, the Prime Minister pointed to the Government Information Service,(GIS) and Her majesty’s Prison Service, as two examples of institutions that were affected by direct political interference and are in need of rebalancing. The Prime Minister said political interference has “created an atmosphere where people were not allowed to function properly and perform their work well. The standards that should have been maintained by these institutions had fallen significantly.” |

West Indies captain Chris Gayle smashed the 17th century of his One-Day International career, but it was not enough to secure a victory over Pakistan in the opening match of the Fortune Cup Series on Wednesday. Playing for the first time at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, the powerful left-hander hit 11 fours and five mammoth sixes in a stunning knock of 113 off 106 balls as the Windies reached 294 for 9 off 50 overs. Pakistan replied with 295 for 6 off 49.5 overs to win by four wickets with one ball to spare. |
