GRENADA TO RECEIVE PEDIATRIC MEDICAL VISITORS

Orlando, August 27, 2007 -- Thanks to an invitation extended by Dr. Beverly Nelson to dedicated physicians and health care professionals with many different disciplines ranging from pediatric orthopedics to cardiology, a team of doctors from the United States will arrive in Grenada this week.

The team of volunteers will dedicate their time, energy and effort towards  developing continued treatment for Grenada’s children who have no health care resources.  Most of the team will arrive on August 29th and will be working at various health locations through September 1st, 2007 and at the General Hospital.

Dr. Nelson recruited physicians who have had previous experience in Grenada, several of whom were involved in the CHORES  initiative. (Children’s Health Organization Relief and Education Services).

Grenadian by birth, raised and educated in Grenada and in the United States, Dr. Nelson began reaching out on behalf of Grenadian children from the moment she returned to practice medicine in her beloved island nation in 1989. "I love medicine and I love my country," says Nelson. "I knew there were complex problems in tertiary care for our children due to lack of specialty services and outdated medical facilities.  My decision to return carried with it a responsibility to bring about change.”

Of note, Judy Hammer-Knisely, Speech Pathologist with Wolfson Children’s Clinic in Jacksonville, FL, will be visiting with the group. Hammer-Knisely was featured on cable television’s Discovery Health Channel as the therapist shown in the show ‘Born Without a Face’
