NDC PROMISES A FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT

Montreal, November 06, 2007 -- The National Democratic Congress, which is hoping to unseat the ruling New National Party as the government of Grenada, says if elected it will make it easier for the public to get information about government business.

Honourable Tillman Thomas, head of the NDC and official Opposition Leader, told Grenadians in Montreal on Sunday that a government of the National Democratic Congress will pass a Freedom of Information act.

"We are going to introduce legislation so that there'll be a Freedom of Information act, so that people will know what is happening in Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique,'' Thomas said.  Critics of Prime Minister Keith Mitchell and his administration have accused them of an unwillingness to share government information.

The criticism has been sharpened in the wake of the Port Louis project that is being undertaken by British investor Peter de Savary.  The NNP government has been tight-lipped about sharing information on the project, citing a "secrecy clause'' between the administration and the investor.
