I ONLY HAD NINE YEARS WITH MY MOM, SAYS GRIEVING SON
NEW YORK, December 22, 2007 -- Friends and family said good-bye on Friday to a Brooklyn woman killed by a stray bullet. Mourners paid their respects to Carol Simon-Hayes, a 35-year-old mother who was shot last Saturday after being caught in a gunfight between two men on Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights.
Her brother-in-law had strong words for the Simon-Hayes' killer as "There is a God," said Alister Fortune. "And if you don't believe there is a God, think about her little boy, that little 9-year-old. You take away his mother from him and you know what he told his dad? He said 'Dad, I only had nine years with my mom.'" Simon-Hayes' body is being flown to Grenada for burial.
A fund is being set up to pay for her son's education. Meanwhile, police continue to search for 27-year-old Darius Dubarry, whom they are calling a person of interest in the case. (NY 1 NEWS)
