IN YUH YARD
St. George, March 13, 2008 --The Grenada Cultural Foundation is pleased to announce the successful hosting of the first in a series of “In Yuh Yard” held on Tuesday 11th March at the Villa, Victoria, St. Mark.
Over 15 senior citizens from the community of Victoria attended and
shared their experiences with the Foundation. They spoke about life in
Victoria as youngsters, and their ways of living.
The history of the Vecko, which came from Victoria, St. Mark, was told
along with other aspects of carnival in the village. Some also spoke
about how life in the town was centered on the estates in the area.
“In yuh Yard” is a program of the Foundation which seeks to capture on
video the oral history of the country which is dying. The program
visits villages where persons who are versed in the local history
gather at a popular spot to discuss life in the village. Directors of
the Foundation are responsible for making contact with the persons
featured.
The Grenada Cultural Foundation thanks all those who attended and for
their contributions to this important process of recording Grenada's
history and folklore. The Foundation also extends an invitation to
persons to call the Foundation’s office with pertinent information and
persons in you village.
