GRENADA'S CHURCHES TO GET HELP
St. George, March 28, 2008 -- The demolished churches which freckle the Grenadian skyline continue to be a reminder of the devastation wreaked here by Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
Almost four years following that onslaught, many of these structures
remain untouched by any rehabilitation process -- the result of a
scarcity of financial resources. But, thanks to an innovative approach
towards fund raising and a committed group of individuals and
organizations, that may be about to change.
Thursday saw the launch of Faith With Action, an initiative aimed at
augmenting efforts by the local churches to raise funds for the
restoration of four of Grenada's historical landmarks -- The Roman
Catholic Cathedral, The Anglican Church, The Methodist Church and the
Presbyterian Church.
The brainchild of Tony Webster of Barbados, Faith with Action has been
launched and will be managed by the Willie Redhead Foundation. Other
key partners are Columbian Emeralds and The Rotary Club of Grenada.
The general public and corporate citizens are being called upon to play
their part, and organizers have outlined several ways in which they may
do so, including:-
** Donations made directly to the Foundation, or FWA's account at RBTT (a/c: 553-66-85)
** Corporate sponsorships of cash, or of kind;
** Contributions through Columbian Emeralds and other partners with FAITH WITH ACTION displays
** Community-based collections, using NGOs, schools and youth networks.
Actual heritage restoration is expected to begin this year.
