GOVERNMENT OFFERS CONDOLENCES TO GOVERNMENT AND PEOPLE OF CHINA
St. George, May 13, 2008 -- The Government of Grenada has sent condolences to the Government and people of China following the earthquake disaster which has left thousands of people dead and injured.
The message which was transmitted to the Chinese Embassy today reads,
“The Government and people of Grenada are extremely saddened over the
massive loss of life and extensive material destruction occasioned by
the earthquake in Sichuan Province, and wish to offer profound
condolences to the entire nation.”
Prime Minister Dr. The Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell said he was deeply
touched by the scenes of death and destruction on television. He said
that Grenada and China have forged a close friendship and offered his
own personal condolences to the Government and people of China. “We in
Grenada know how natural disasters can affect an entire nation. We know
the pain and suffering that is caused and my deepest sympathy goes out
to the Chinese Government and people.”
The Grenadian leader also advised that his Ministry had been contacting
Grenadian students studying in China through the Grenada Embassy in
China. He noted that reports suggest that all students were safe
although some had been affected by the precautionary evacuations which
had been ordered after the earthquake.
