TOP HONOUR GOES TO A GRENADIAN
 Debbie Neckles and Mid-Western's president St. George, May 16, 2008 -- Another former Grenadian teacher has earned top honors at Midwestern State University’s commencement ceremonies in the United States.
Jacqueline Phillip, a former teacher at GBSS, earned the President’s
medal as the top graduate in the College of Business Administration.
Phillip also earned summa cum laude honors with a 3.97 GPA.
Donnell Joel Thomas, another former teacher, also earned the highest
summa cum laude honors. Thomas earned double degrees in psychology and
Spanish and had 3.94 GPA.
Stephen Matthew Joseph, Nefer McIntyre, and Kinda Williams all earned
magna cum laude honors -- Joseph for his degree in finance; McIntyre
for a degree in marketing; and Williams for joint degrees in psychology
and Spanish. Four others earned cum laud honors.
Debbie Neckles earned cum laude honors and a bachelor of social work
degree; Corinne George cum laude for a bachelor of science in biology;
Evelyn Tony Jones cum laude for a bachelor of business administration
in accounting; and Khan Latouche in management and marketing. Latouche
also served as the president of the Caribbean Students Organization
this year.
Three Grenadians --- Peter Braveboy, Lester Pierre, and Che Phillip all
earned Masters’ degrees. Phillip a master of arts in political
science; Braveboy and Pierre earned Masters in education.
Additionally, Shawn Blackette and Zeno Ferguson earned bachelor of
science degrees in mechanical engineering; Jade Bridgeman, bachelor of
business administration in finance; Samintra Charles in management
information science, Paula Mitchell in management; Karrie Sandy in
business administration; Tricia Neptune in Biology; Tammi Roberts in
psychology; Abegayl Thomas in Chemistry; and Indra Thomas in nursing.
“This was a spectacular day for Grenadian students,” said Dr. Howard
Farrell, university vice president for student affairs. “It speaks to
the quality of the preparation done in the secondary system on the
island.”
Shurwayne Winchester performed in the spectacular graduation weekend at
the university on the night before graduation, and over 600 family
members and students attended the graduation dinner.
Thirty-five new students from Grenada were accepted by Midwestern State
University this past August, accounting for almost 900 recruits from
the Caribbean in the fifteen year old program.
