IT'S NOW A FULL BLOWN STRIKE
St. George, July 29, 2008 - Workers at Grenada's sole electricity company, Grenlec, continue to protest the company's refusal to make adjustments to the 2007 job evaluation rates.
Workers at the Grenada Electricity Services downed tools yesterday,
claiming that the recent job evaluation did not take inflation into
consideration. Acting Prime Minister, Michael Lett and Minister of
Labour, Glynnis Roberts were unsuccessful at a meeting on Tuesday in
their effort to get the workers to return to work.
Meanwhile, although not saying that there will be power outages
tonight, Technical and Allied Workers Union leader, Chester Humphrey
made it clear that night workers who deal with emergencies and power
problems will not be on the job tonight.
The protest has already spread to the sister isles of Carriacou and Petit Martinique.
