WILLIE REDHEAD FOUNDATION JOINS REGIONAL HERITAGE ASSOCIATION
St. George, July 30, 2008 -- The Regional Heritage Association (RHA) whose headquarters is in St. Lucia, was formed to serve the Heritage concerns of the member states in the Eastern Caribbean (OECS) including the French Departments of Martinique and Guadeloupe.
The RHA is a non-profit, non-Governmental Heritage organisation
established to safeguard and protect the region’s natural and cultural
heritage-both terrestrial, sub-terrestrial and marine for the benefit
of the people of the sub-region and the enjoyment of the world at large.
“In a society where living standards are changing at an accelerated
pace, it is essential for man’s equilibrium and development to preserve
for him a fitting setting in which to live, where he will remain in
contact with nature and the evidence of civilization bequeathed by past
generations, and that to this end, it is appropriate to give the
cultural and natural heritage an active function in community life and
to integrate into an overall policy the achievements of our time, the
values of the past and the beauty of nature”- UNESCO preamble to
Heritage Protection 1972.
Considering the above and mindful of the problems confronting our
governments and heritage bodies in meeting the challenges, in some
cases of destabilizing external forces, in the form of so called
development projects coupled with the aspirations of an increasing
complex population with growing expectations we have come to the
realization that these issues could better be addressed by pooling our
human resources regionally.
The vision and objective of RHA is to bring together regional heritage
groups of professional people whose academic training, practical
experience and consulting expertise enable them to advise and educate
Governments, Government Departments, Agencies and citizens on the value
of protecting and preserving their (our) heritage and also to enable
governments of the sub-region to formulate a total concept for the
Economic Development, enhancement, protection and preservation of our
Natural and Cultural Heritage .
To this end, it is the intention of RHA to put together a Regional
Heritage Resource Management Consultation Team which it is hoped will
remove the barriers between committed heritage professionals and the
Government(s). In this regard the Regional Heritage Resource Management
Consultants through their own strengths and that of their associates
would be able to offer valuable assistance and control in 3 key
resource areas:
1 Protection - Heritage preservation of Natural Resources
2 Preservation – Heritage conservation of Environmental Resources
3 Conservation- Heritage of Human Resources
The Willie Redhead Foundation looks forward in reaping the rewards of
membership of this sub-regional body which we anticipate will redound
to the benefit of Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique especially
under the dispensation of the new political administration.
