SALVATION ARMY DONATES MEDICAL SUPPLIES TO MINISTRY OF HEALTH
St. George, October 9, 2008 -- The Salvation Army of Grenada has donated a large quantity of medical supplies and medical apparatuses to the Ministry of Health.
The presentation was made by Captain Derek Miller, of the Salvation
Army in St. George’s, to Minister of State in the Ministry of Health,
Sen. the Hon. Ann Peters, at a brief ceremony at the Minister’s office
on Thursday morning, October 9, 2008.
The supplies included latex examination gloves, oxygen tubes, manual
resuscitating apparatus, cotton swabs, tracheotomy equipment, among
other supplies.
According to Captain Miller, this was their way of contributing towards
the development of healthcare in Grenada. He said that his organization
was very happy to make what he described as a meaningful contribution
to the Ministry of Health, in its mission to deliver a good health
service to the people of the Spice Isle. Captain Miller explained that
being mindful of the importance of healthcare and the cost that are
associated with it at times, was the basis upon which his organization
decided to assist the Ministry of Health.
In accepting the donation on behalf of the Ministry of Health, Junior
Minister for Health, Sen. the Hon. Ann Peters, said that she was
delighted to receive the supplies and apparatus which she believes will
be put into good use.
Minister Peters used the opportunity to reiterate her Government’s
position on Healthcare, of providing the best available healthcare
services to the people of Grenada in a meaningful way. She said that
her Government and Ministry are conscious of the fact that the health
of its people is of paramount importance, and stressed the importance
of building partnerships with institutions like the Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army, a locally faith-based organization with its
headquarters in St. George’s, has made similar donations to various
government Ministries in the past.
