STRENGTHENING ECONOMIC MANAGEMENT

ST. GEORGE’S, December 3, 2008 -- Minister of Finance, Hon. Nazim Burke, will present the 2009 Budget to Parliament at 10:00 am. on Friday 12th December, 2008,  at the Grenada Trade Centre, St. George’s.

This announcement follows the approval of the 2009 Estimates of Expenditure by the Standing Committee on Finance on Monday December 01, 2008.

The theme for the 2009 Budget is “Strengthening Economic Management and Building a Platform for Sustained Prosperity,” and reflects the priorities identified by Government for the revitalization and strengthening of the economy.

As part of the preparation process, the Ministry of Finance, held consultations with all ministries and government departments, teachers, trade unions, NGOs, the business community and the general public at the constituency level, to solicit their input into the 2009 Budget. A very successful National Consultation was held on November 5th, 2008 from which practical suggestions were obtained.
