SHARLIE JOSEPH IS EXCITED

Sharlie Joseph in training NEW YORK, June 5, 2009 – Grenada’s international midfielder Shalrie Joseph is excited about his team’s chances at the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup Tournament to be staged in the United States next month.
Joseph, who plays for the New England Revolution in the US Major League
Soccer (MLS), is openly optimistic that Grenada could prove to be the
dark horse in the 12-team tournament scheduled for July 4-26 and to be
played at 13 different venues.
The Grenada international player, who is among the leading scorers for
the NE Revs in the 2009 season, is anticipating the match-up against
favourites -- the United States -- in their opening game at Qwest Field
in Seattle on July 4.
“I think we have a good chance of creating the upsets since the
pressure will be on the other teams to ensure they defeat us,” said
Joseph.
The defensive midfielder, who turned 31 one week ago, has played in all
10 games for the Revs so far this season, completing 900 minutes on the
field. He scored four goals and assisted in two.
Joseph is among internationals expected to join the national team for
the Gold Cup Tournament but could miss out on Wednesday’s friendly
against Panama at the National Stadium.
“I have been in touch with some of the players and they are excited and
that is good. The new coach (Tommy Taylor) seems to be gelling the
players,” he said.
Joseph will take the field for the Revs on Sunday against the New York Red Bulls at Gillette Stadium in Boston.
