The addition of the POETA curricula to the NEWLO St. Andrews center
will provide young people with training in Information and
Communications Technology (ICT), civic education and job readiness
training. The new centre will provide training to at least ninety (90)
participants each year.
The Trust is also pleased to announce that the winner of the Youth

ABOUT THE TRUST FOR THE AMERICAS
The Trust for the Americas promotes private and public sector
participation in projects that reflect the main goals of the OAS in the
areas of Information Communication Technology for Development and
Transparency, Free of Trade and Democratic Governance.
Partnership for Opportunities in Employment through Technology in the
Americas, POETA, the Trust’s ICT initiative, provides marginalized
populations with job-ready information and communication technology
(ICT) skills. POETA program graduates acquire ICT skills in a range of
employable disciplines that improves their employability and enhances
their empowerment.
The success of POETA in Latin America enabled the Trust to leverage
support from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA),
CISCO Systems Inc, the International Development Research Centre (IDRC)
and Microsoft to expand POETA to Antigua & Barbuda, Dominica,
Grenada, St Kitts & Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent & the
Grenadines. POETA targets at-risk youth in the Eastern Caribbean,
providing them with training in ICTs, job readiness and civic
education.
The program has trained over 600 at risk youth in the Eastern
Caribbean. Since its start in Guatemala in 2004, POETA has provided
ICT and other training to vulnerable communities through 48 centers in
