GRENLEC’S CEO ELECTED CHAIRMAN OF CARILEC
St. George's, June 23, 2009 -- The Chief Executive Officer of the Grenada Electricity Services Ltd. (GRENLEC), Mr. Vernon Lawrence is the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Caribbean Electric Utility Service Corporation (CARILEC). Mr. Lawrence, who has served as a member of the Board for five years, was elected as members of the CARILEC met in Grand Cayman. His mandate is to lead the organisation as its members maneuver through the turbulence of volatile oil prices and a world economy in crisis.
The annual CARILEC conference, held against the background of a
changing electricity industry, discussed many of the unique challenges
of the sector, ideas and opportunities for the way forward. CARILEC is
an association of electric utilities, suppliers, manufactures and other
stakeholders operating in the electricity industry in the Caribbean.
The association plays a coordinating role in servicing its members’
needs for training, research, information-sharing and disaster recovery.
The 2009-2010 CARILEC Board of Directors includes Vice Chairman, Mr.
Peter Williams of the Barbados Light and Power. Re-elected are Mr.
Richard Hew, Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd.; Mr. Trevor Louisy, St.
Lucia Electricity Services Ltd.; Mr.Anthon Casperson,
AquaLectra(Curacao); Mr. Thornley Myers, St. Vincent Electricity
Services; Mr. William Brooks, St. Maarten; Mr. Ken Basden, Bahamas
Electricty Services Company; and Mr. Lynn Young of the Belize
Electricty Company.
The newly elected members are: Mr. Vince Ingham,
Bermuda Electric Light Company Ltd.; Mr. Courtney Mark, Trinidad and
Tobago Electricity Commission; Mr. Gerald Lau, Suriname; and Mr.Andre
Kiener of Guadeloupe. Representing the Associate and Vending Companies
are: Guillermo Rodriques of ABB, and his alternate Roel Verlaan of
KEMA.
Over 100 Electricity experts from Caribbean electric utilities and
their vending Associates participated in the conference at the Grand
Cayman Marriott Beach Resort. Conference presentations included
Renewable Energy, Deregulation, Disaster Management and Case Studies on
Utilities’ best practices. The conference also provided many
opportunities for delegates to experience true Caymanian hospitality.
