TAWU/CABLE & WIRELESS COMMENCE NEGOTIATIONS FOR A NEW CONTRACT

St. George's, June 26, 2009 -- Talks between the Technical and Allied Workers’ Union and Cable and Wireless (LIME) on a new Collective Industrial Labour Agreement for the period 2009 to 2012 began yesterday at the company’s Headquarters on the Carenage.

The articles under discussion were wage increases, pensions, severance pay and allowances.  Representing the Company was Mr. Sutcliffe Hodge, Regional President, Mr. Andrew Millette, Mr. James Pitt and Ms. Arlene Winsborrow -- the new Regional Human Resource Manager.  The Union’s delegation was headed by Sen. Chester Humphrey and included 2nd Vice President, Mr. Andre’ Lewis who has responsibility for Communications,  and Chief Shop Steward Mr. Paul Gall.

The Union describes yesterday’s talks as amicable -- though difficult -- and they come against the back drop of the international economic crisis.  Talks are due to continue shortly.
