A BROKEN RECORD
ST. GEORGE’S, July 1, 2009 -- Former Minister for Health Mrs. Ann David-Antoine, is expressing disappointment and shock at the way the NDC administration has handled the World Bank project for the construction of the Gouyave Medical Centre. She said despite the commitment given by the new Minister, that the facility will be completed in less than a year, the Government has failed to deliver on this promise and has now lost millions of dollars in funding for the project.
Mrs. Antoine noted that the NDC, while in opposition, had harshly
criticized the NNP administration for not starting the project in a
timely manner although lots of preparatory work had started and the
actual construction was scheduled to start in August 2008.
The former Minister says that the new administration had sufficient
time to build the new Health Centre but their focus and priority was
placed on verbally attacking the former administration, firing staff,
condemning the new hospital and other achievements of the NNP
administration.
Mrs. Antoine says her heart goes out to the many residents of Gouyave
and the surrounding areas for the painful experiences that they now
have to access basic health services. She says after one year in
office, she is calling on the Government to take immediate actions to
ease the burden placed on these persons who now have to travel to Grand
Roy and Florida to access health services. The former Minister also
calls on the NDC Government to start delivering on the many health
related promises made to the people of Grenada during the campaign
leading up to the 2008 general elections.
