GRENADA CONGRATULATES THE UNITED STATES ON ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE

ST. GEORGE’S,  JULY 3, 2009 -- Acting Prime Minister Hon. Denis Michael Lett has congratulated United States President Barrack Obama, on his country’s anniversary of independence.

In a statement sent to the US Embassy in St. George’s today, Mr. Lett, who is also Agriculture Minister, described Mr. Obama’s outlook on domestic and global issues as “pragmatic, dynamic, firm and fresh.”

The full text of the message reads:

“On behalf of the government and people of Grenada, I wish to extend my heartfelt congratulations to you, the government and people of the United States of America, as you celebrate another glorious year of your nation’s independence.

I acknowledge your pragmatic, dynamic, firm and fresh outlook and leadership on domestic and global issues at this juncture of your Presidency. Your positive approach to difficulties and obstacles has won the admiration of my government and that of leaders in this hemisphere. I am confident that you will do what is necessary to ensure the continued success of your great nation.

Although the financial crisis has become global and has seriously affected us, both our countries have been able to take steps to continue co-operation in various areas and maintain the historic traditional and close ties that our nations have enjoyed over the years.

Please accept, Mr. President, my best wishes for the continued prosperity of your nation and I cherish the hope that the warm friendly relations shared between our countries will grow from strength to strength,” the statement ended.
