CADETS GET A BOOST
ST. GEORGE’S, AUGUST 13th, 2009_ International engineering consulting firm, DESSAU, on Thursday provided a monetary donation to assist with the re-establishment of the Cadet movement in Grenada.
The company’s Vice President for Caribbean International Development,
Joseph Redhead, who was a cadet while growing up in Grenada, made the
donation to one of the leaders of the revival of the corp., Jeff Byer.
“I know first hand the contribution of the Cadet Corp to the
development of young people. I was a member of the Cadet Corp in
Grenada while I was a student,” Mr. Redhead told a short handing over
ceremony at the Prime Minister’s Office.
He added that “Dessau wants to be a part of shaping the next
generation. We consider this an investment in Grenada’s young people
and we are very proud to make this investment.”
Mr. Redhead pledged continued assistance to the revival of the cadet movement in Grenada.
Mr Byer, who received the contribution on behalf of Chairman, Charles
George, said it will provide much needed uniforms for the Cadets, as
the movement experiences resurgence in Grenada.
“This is a very timely contribution because we are preparing for our
participation in several major national events, including our
independence celebrations in 2010,” said Mr. Byer, in welcoming the
donation.
Grenada currently has three potential Cadet officers on training in
Jamaica, following a two week training session in Grenada with
commissioned officers from the Jamaica and Trinidad Cadet Forces.
