“Strengthening Reiki Connections” is the theme under which Grenada will host an international Reiki Gathering from September 16th to 19th, 2010 at the Mt. St. Ervan’s Retreat Centre in the parish of St. Andrew.
What is Reiki? It is the Japanese word, defined as being that power or
force or energy, which acts and lives in all created matter. The word
Reiki can be broken into two component parts, the syllable "Rei"
describing the universal power and essence, and "Ki" the vital life
that flows through all living beings. Thus Reiki can be thought of as
Universal life force energy.
Someone attuned to this healing energy can use Reiki to dissolve
tension at the mental, physical and emotional levels and thereby
restore balance to a person’s body. Reiki is very simple to carry out
as nothing other than your hands are required to tap this universal
energy. It can be safely used at any time, in any place and for
anything. To practice Reiki no faith or belief is required. It is
successfully used by people of different religions, philosophies and
ages. Reiki is for everyone, and can be easily learned.
Although Reiki began in Japan in the early 1900’s and the practice was
only brought to Hawaii in 1936, the use of this healing methodology has
grown significantly in the West. Reiki was recently highlighted as an
integral component of Energy Medicine on January 9th, 2010, by Dr. Oz,
a former medical consultant on the Oprah show, who now hosts his own TV

The community of Reiki practitioners in Grenada currently numbers in
excess of fifty, with training sessions being held on the island by Dr.
Wiltshire since 2002. Over the past three months concerted efforts
have been made toward establishing a Grenada Reiki Association, and
also to plan the hosting of this international Reiki Gathering in
September.
