TOURISM EDUCATION PACKAGE
St. George, February 15, 2010 -- The tagline “Tourism is everybody’s business and we all have our part to play” is taking on more significance with the introduction of tourism education in schools.
February 1st saw the start of the training with is being piloted in 12 schools across the island.
The hope is that this foundation training will prepare students to be
better able to compete for jobs as well as encourage them to play their
part in the development of a new and more effective tourism product.
US $113,000.00 has been donated by the United Nations educational
Scientific and Cultural organization UNESCO under the Japanese Funds in
Trust Programme for the refocusing of the curriculum, to include
Technical Education, Tourism Education, Citizenship skill and Personal
Development skills.
Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Education and Human
Resource Development Wendy Chasteau visited one of the schools and
filed this report.
