UNESCO APPROVES FUNDS FOR TRAINING IN GRENADA
St. George’s, March 2nd 2010 -- EC$60,000 has been approved by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) for training of the media in Grenada.
This was announced by Secretary General of the Grenada Commission for
UNESCO Mr. Eugene Gittens, who said the funds will support two training
workshops for media practitioners both geared at raising professional
standards of the media on the island.
The first workshop, targeted to young journalists, will be aimed at
improving their reading, writing, grammar, pronunciation, presentation
and news packaging skills. While the second, is targeted to more senior
journalists, will be provided with advanced skills in research and
investigative journalism.
Training, which will begin later on this year, will be conducted by top
local, regional and international media trainers and consultants and
the project will be coordinated by the Media Workers Association of
Grenada (MWAG).
According to Gittens, UNESCO promotes a free and pluralistic media,
universal access to information and access to Information Communication
Technologies (ICTs).
