THE GLOBAL ENVIRONMENT FACILITY
SMALL GRANTS PROGRAMME UNITED NATIONS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (GEF SGP UNDP) INVITES COMMUNITY GROUPS AND NGOs TO SUBMIT PROJECT CONCEPTS AND/OR PROPOSALS FOR PROJECTS AIMED AT ADDRESSING LAND DEGRADATION ISSUES AND THE NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF THE DROUGHT IN GRENADA AT THE COMMUNITY LEVEL CREATING ALTERNATIVE LIVELIHOODS AND BUILDING CAPACITY PROJECTS MUST BE IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:
Land Degradation: projects which include reforestation; afforestation;
agroforestry; organic farming; soil conservation; education and
awareness; addressing bush fires; water conservation; research and
adoption of sustainable forms of land management; ground water
recharge; sustainable micro enterprise; apiculture (honey production);
related policy development; and other such projects.
Project Goal: Alleviation of the severe negative impacts of the drought forecasted for this dry season on the environment, communities and households. Specific Objectives: i) improvements in water conservation awareness and practices by households and communities; ii) soil and land protection against degradation as well as bio-diversity conservation through a reduction in bush fires; and iii) improvement in the level of water retention in the future by reforestation and rain water harvesting thereby mitigating against the effects of droughts and climate change.
