COLLABORATIVE TALKS HELD BETWEEN CHINESE AMBASSADOR AND MINISTER FOR CARRIACOU AND PETITE MARTINIQUE AFFAIRS

Minister Hon. Kindra Maturine-Stewart presents model boat to Chinese Ambassador His Excellency Zhao Youngchen on his first visit to Carriacou

Government’s plan for a new ministerial complex in Carriacou could be receiving support from the Government of China.

The construction of a new building to house the various departments of the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government was one of the issues discussed between Chinese Ambassador His Excellency Zhao Yongchen and Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, Kindra Maturine-Stewart.

The two were joined in the talks by Permanent Secretary Rholda Quamina and two other officials from the Chinese Embassy.

They also discussed the possibility of Chinese assistance in the areas of health and wellness and agriculture.

His Excellency Zhao Young Chen, on his first visit to Carriacou was given a tour of projects supported by the Chinese Government. These included stops at Belair Nursery, the project site for the low income Chinese housing and the new port facility at Tyrell Bay.

Minister Stewart showed appreciation to the Chinese Ambassador for accepting the invitation to visit the island, by presenting him with a model boat depicting the island’s rich boat building heritage.
