Following a meeting of its membership on Friday, Grenada’s public workers have voted to remain off their jobs beginning this morning.  Public Relations officer of the Public Workers Union, Brian Grimes summarized the rationale leading up to today’s industrial action: BRIAN – The Public Workers’ Union

As public workers began their industrial action on Monday, head of government’s negotiating team, Beryl Isaac took to the airwaves to explain the need for fiscal discipline which she rationalized by pointing to the kudos which government has received from international agencies which were associated with the recently concluded Structural Adjustment Program: ISAAC – The program has received recognition

Government fears the adverse impact that any additional pay-outs could have on the debt forgiveness which Grenada has received as a result of the Structural Adjustment Program: ISAAC – Faced with all these financial commitments

On Monday’s edition of GUDDAY GRENADA, broadcast journalist, Beverly Sinclair was asked to comment on the rationale for strike action put forward by some that unions have become a bit too demanding.  She pointed to the fact that public workers in recent times have been trying to bring their salaries on par with the private sector, which she has no difficulty with — as long as it’s done within reason.  However, she said BEVERLY – If money can be paid
