STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF HARMONY JAMES

Written by on April 27, 2018

The Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development and Religious Affairs joins with the family, relatives and friends of Harmony James, in mourning her untimely death. Harmony passed away at the General hospital, where she had been warded for approximately three weeks.

Harmony was a ten year old, Grade Four student, who attended the L’Esterre Government School, in Carriacou.  At the time of her death, she was due to sit the Grade Four Minimum Competency Test (MCT), in a few weeks.

Robert Martineau, Principal of the School, said that staff and students are very saddened at Harmony’s passing, although she had been ill for some time. He indicated that they are providing the necessary support to her brother and sister, who are also enrolled at the school and the students of her class.

Area Education Officer (AEO), Rosalina Lendore, has been in contact with the Principal and had made arrangements for a school counsellor to visit the school, to provide counselling and grief support to the children.

Harmony who was Antiguan by birth, had moved to Carriacou with her family just six years ago. Her mother, Elma Julien-Francis, describes her daughter as ‘harmony’ by name and nature. She said her daughter was very outgoing and loving and made friends everywhere she went. In the short time that she had been warded at the General Hospital, she had befriended the nursing staff who took very good care of her.

The Ministry extends deepest condolences to Harmony’s immediate family, relatives, the Principal, staff and students of the L’Esterre Government School, friends and the extended community.

While Julien-Francis is deeply saddened at the loss of her daughter, she remembers that even in her final moments, Harmony was concerned about her mother and siblings. She takes comfort in knowing that she had raised her daughter in the fear of the Lord and that God has now called her to rest, in his heavenly home.
