THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER IS ISSUING ADVISORIES ON HURRICANE IRMA. AT 8:00 PM, THE EYE OF HURRICANE IRMA WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 18.5 NORTH, LONGITUDE 44.6 WEST ,985 MILES E OF THE LEEWARD ISLANDS.IRMA IS MOVING A LITTLE SOUTH OF DUE WEST NEAR 15 MPH, AND THIS GENERAL MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 110 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS.SOME STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS.IRMA IS CURRENTLY A SMALL HURRICANE, WITH HURRICANE-FORCE WINDS EXTENDING OUTWARD UP TO 25 MILES FROM THE CENTER AND TROPICAL-STORM-FORCE WINDS EXTENDING OUTWARD UP TO 70 MILES. HOWEVER, THE HURRICANE IS EXPECTED TO GROW IN SIZE DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.THE ESTIMATED MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE IS 973 MB.BASED ON THE PROJECTED TRACK THE CENTER OF SYSTEM WOULD CONTINUE TO STEER AWAY FROM THE ISLANDS. HOWEVER, THERE IS A HIGH CHANCE THAT SPIRAL RAIN BANDS ON THE SOUTHERN FRINGE OF THE HURRICANE CAN INDUCE MODERATE TO HEAVY SHOWERS, THUNDERSHOWERS, GUSTY WINDS AND STORM SURGE ON WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY OF THE UPCOMING WEEK.THIS IS DEPENDENT ON THE TRAJECTORY OF THE SYSTEM.

A LARGE BUT DISORGANIZED AREA OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS, LOCATED A FEW HUNDRED MILES SOUTHWEST OF THE CABO VERDE ISLANDS IS ASSOCIATED WITH A TROPICAL WAVE.ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO BECOME MORE FAVORABLE FOR DEVELOPMENT, AND A TROPICAL DEPRESSION IS LIKELY TO FORM BY THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK WHILE THE DISTURBANCE MOVES WESTWARD AT 10 TO 15 MPH OVER THE TROPICAL ATLANTIC. THERE IS A LOW (NEAR 0%) FORMATION CHANCE THROUGH 48 HOURS AND A HIGH (70%) FORMATION CHANCE THROUGH 5 DAYS. MODELS SUGGEST THAT THIS SYSTEM ALSO HAS THE POTENTIAL TO INDUCE MODERATE TO HEAVY SHOWERS, THUNDERSHOWERS AND GUSTY WINDS DURING THE LATTER PART OF NEXT WEEK; SHOULD DEVELOPMENT PROGRESS.
